The new OM System PEN mirrorless camera, continuing the tradition of retro design, recently appeared on Amazon in the US. According to NotebookCheck, this model is the successor to Olympus Pen E-P7 and is equipped with a 20,4-megapixel Micro Four Thirds (M4/3) sensor. The base ISO sensitivity is set at 80.
Key features of OM System PEN
Among the claimed features are built-in image stabilization and the ability to record video in 4K. While details on video frame rates, stabilization levels, burst speed, and memory specifications are yet to be revealed, the presence of these features has already been confirmed on the sales page.
The Micro Four Thirds (M4/3 or MFT) format is known for its compromise between sensor size and compactness of the camera and lenses. M4/3 sensors are typically smaller than full-frame sensors, allowing for lighter and smaller devices.
Innovative AI autofocus
One of the most highlighted new features is the AI autofocus system, which is designed to recognize people and pets, providing more stable and accurate focus on the subject.
The body of the new OM System Pen weighs 393 grams. The camera is equipped with an OLED viewfinder, which allows you to conveniently compose a frame even in bright sunlight. The screen is foldable, which is convenient for taking selfies, and can also be folded into the body with the screen inward to protect the display.
The front panel of the camera retains the classic mode switch for choosing between color and black and white images, which adds to the retro charm.
Shooting modes and equipment
The mode dial offers both fully automatic and standard PASM (Programmed Auto, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual) modes. In addition, users have access to scene modes, filters, and two custom modes.
The kit, which was available for pre-order at a price of 1299 USD (about 8740 UAH at the current exchange rate), includes two lenses: M.Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5—5.6 III and M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4.0—5.6 R. At the time of publication of the news, the offer had already been withdrawn from sale.
