Bosch and Qualcomm scale ADAS systems and announce 10 million chips shipped

German technology conglomerate Bosch and American semiconductor giant Qualcomm Technologies have announced a new phase in their strategic collaboration. The partnership, which previously focused on multimedia systems for “digital cockpits,” now encompasses the development and mass deployment of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

At the same time, the companies celebrated a fundamental market milestone: Bosch has manufactured and delivered more than 10 million Snapdragon Cockpit-based in-car computers to automakers since mass shipments began in 2021. The growth rate was impressive, with shipments jumping from 1 million units in 2023 to 10 million in less than three years.

The next-generation technology stack is focused on simplifying the architecture of software-defined cars:

  • 🧩 Modular ADAS platform from Bosch: A hardware computer designed to process data from a complex of sensors (radars, lidars, cameras) to build a 360-degree model of the environment. The system ensures the execution of complex automated driving algorithms at high speeds and meets the highest functional safety standard ASIL-D.

  • 🏎️ Convergence on a single SoC (Snapdragon Ride Flex): Companies are integrating cockpit multimedia functions and ADAS algorithms into a single system-on-chip (SoC). This allows automakers to radically reduce component cost, power consumption, and wiring complexity, giving drivers mass access to Level 2 autopilot (hands-free driving, lane keeping, intelligent parking).

  • 📅 Market launch in 2028: The new production programs have already won a number of commercial contracts from automakers in East Asia, Europe and North America. The first production cars with the new Bosch-Qualcomm central computers will be on the roads in 2028.

HiTech Expert Take

The expansion of the alliance between Bosch and Qualcomm marks the final transition of the automotive industry from disparate electronic control units (ECUs) to single centralized computing platforms. Qualcomm's monopolization of the chip market and its merger with the powers Bosch will allow automakers to accelerate the deployment of Level 2+ autonomous driving in the mass and budget segments of cars. The convergence of the cockpit and ADAS on a single Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC significantly reduces the cost of production, which will force competing ecosystems (in particular Mobileye and NVIDIA Drive) to urgently review their own pricing strategies for automakers.
