Omdia, a reputable international analytical agency made public has released its latest forecast for the global display industry. According to the report, shipments of large-sized OLED panels (10 inches and larger) are expected to reach 38,8 million units in 2026, a rapid 18,8% year-on-year increase. This is particularly impressive given the overall decline in the large-format display market, with total annual shipments expected to decline by 2,3% and total market value set to decline by 1,7% to $69,9 billion.
Analysts cite rising raw material and chip prices, global geopolitical tensions, and increasing economic turbulence as the main reasons for the overall market cooling, especially in the second half of 2026.

The death of large LCDs and the triumph of IT-OLED
Analysts record a tectonic reformatting of the production lines of key market players (in particular, South Korean giants Samsung Display and LG Display):
-
📉 LCD segment shrinks: Shipments of classic large-format liquid crystal (LCD) panels will fall by 3,0% year-on-year in 2026 to 879,1 million units. Customers are massively switching to higher-contrast self-organic matrices.
-
💻 Explosive growth of IT-OLED: Laptop screens and computer monitors will be the key drivers of the entire segment. OLED panel shipments for notebook PCs are expected to grow by a whopping 66,0% year-on-year, and for monitors by 34,0%.
-
🏭 Reorientation of 8.5G factories: Omdia Display Research Group Head Y.S. Chung notes that Korean manufacturers have begun to actively redirect spare capacity at their advanced 8.5G factories from TV OLED panel production to monitor and laptop matrix production. This is offsetting the overall decline in monitor shipments (-1,8%), laptops (-0,6%), and tablets (-3,8%) in total LCD equivalents.

HiTech Expert Take
Omdia's analytical forecast clearly illustrates the irreversible process of replacing outdated LCD technologies and the transition of consumer and professional electronics to OLED standards. Despite macroeconomic pressure, consumers and the corporate sector are no longer ready to put up with compromised color reproduction and low contrast of liquid crystals in laptops or work monitors. The pragmatic step of Korean vendors to repurpose 8.5G lithography lines for computer screens will allow them to save business margins against the background of a general decline in TV sales, as well as meet the huge needs of developers, gamers and content creators for ideal displays.
From an engineering point of view, the widespread adoption of high-quality OLED monitors with low power consumption and integrated eye protection systems is extremely important for increasing the efficiency of IT infrastructure and GovTech projects in Ukraine. Against the background of how The Ministry of Digital Transformation is deploying 60 national registries based on the Diya.Engine constructor and preparing a full AI transition to the Agentic State model, the use of professional OLED displays by cybersecurity professionals and registry operators facilitates long-term and continuous analytical work with critical data, including national system "Obriy".
