The 15-credit Graduate Certificate in Children with Special Health Care Needs is offered as a component of the Leadership Education and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Training Program at Westchester Institute for Human Development. Through a collaborative learning experience, participants build knowledge, skills, and values that prepare them to assume leadership roles in disabilities-related systems of care and in the policy and advocacy arena.The Center on Disability and Health in the Institute of Public Health offers a 15-credit Graduate Certificate in Children with Special Health Care Needs to prepare professionals with the skills and knowledge to focus on disability as an emerging and cross-cutting public health field, and to contribute to state and federal public health activities that address the needs of children and adults with disabilities and their families.

Applicants seeking admission to LEND Program and the certificate program:

  • Must be either a current graduate student in a program in public health or in a health or education field OR hold a masters or doctoral level degree. Check out the latest special ed teacher jobs.
  • Must have demonstrated interest in working towards a leadership role working with and on behalf of children with disabilities and their families.
  • Parents or adult siblings of individuals with developmental disabilities who meet these requirements are also encouraged to apply.

The LEND Program is funded by the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau with the aim of improving the health of children with disabilities by preparing trainees from diverse professional disciplines to assume leadership roles.
